Italy to thicken young talents’ Campus

For the fourth year in a row FITET (Italian Table Tennis Association) selected young athletes aged between 8 and 11 year-old coming from all Italian regions. During 2012 campaign, about 280 hopes took part to the selection stages taking place throughout the country. During these periodical meetings, technicians worked intensively to identify the best young talents to be entered toward a dedicate programme which is a preliminary step previous permanent integration into the National Youth team.
Around 60 youth players under the guidance of some 20 coaches gathered few days ago at Federal Table Tennis Center in Terni (Umbria, mid-Italy) undergoing to intensive training programme, with six-hour daily practice focused on motor development besides table tennis technique.
The so-called “Progetto Giovani Fitet” (FITET Youth Project) was strongly supported by Italian President Franco SCIANNIMANICO and coordinated by the technical staff whose leader was Technical Director Matteo QUARANTELLI paying special attention to the most important activities organized by ETTU and ITTF on this field, with the aim to get the best possible improvement by these young athletes.
Indeed, one of the project’s main goals is to help and support Clubs’ recruitment of young talents and acknowledge table tennis as a sport activity to be improved through educational and scholar journeys inspired by the high-level international table tennis model. In the meantime, such campus should represent a major opoportunity to develop young coaches’ and improve their skill regardless the technical task they’re focused on.
