Lignano foto aerea05Lignano is situated on a peninsula surrounded by the calm Adriatic Sea, very near to the Natural Reserves of Valle Canal Novo and Foci dello Stella -both of them easy to reach by motorboat. It has displayed Europe’s “Blue Flag", a symbol of clean seaside and unpolluted sea for 20 years now.
A highway (Statale 354) connects nowadays the mainland with Lignano which developed a vocation for tourism during the 1930s. The very first hotels, though, date since the beginning of the 20th century, when the peninsula was not accessible by land, but only with a boat, by crossing the Marano Lagoon.
Lignano has a coast and a seaside that stretch for about 8 km, divided in three areas: Sabbiadoro, Pineta e Riviera. Three fabulous places designed for a holiday.
- Sabbiadoro (Golden Sand): so called because of the particular colour of its fine sand, it is thevillage of a thousand restaurants, of the outdoor bars, of the long shopping strolls.
- Pineta: caressed by the shadow of its gardens and modelled through its elegant streets, it was built in the Fifties and has a characteristic spiral form, so that the greenery can always be seen while walking along the main street, as planned by its designer, architect Marcello D’Olivo.
Lignano foto aerea02-nuova- Lignano Riviera: is the most relaxing area, deep inside a zone of rich vegetation, with plenty of pines, situated between the beach and the mouth of the Tagliamento river.
Lignano suits all ages. It offers to the visitor a whole range of services, attractions and comforts while maintaining its close contact with nature. Newly-built sports facilities, pedestrian shopping areas, hotels, holiday villages, pubs, wine shops and nightclubs. It proudly hosts one of the most developed European complexes of structures for sailing boats and motorboats with almost 5000 moorings and 8 docks. Around 4.000.000 tourists, many of them foreigners of various nationalities, come each year to Lignano.
